Back up your Mac
Every Mac comes with Time Machine. Time Machine makes backing up your computer simple and convenient. All you need to do is turn it on and connect an external storage drive to your computer. Time Machine will automatically make hourly backups when a drive is connected.
Store content in iCloud
iCloud lets you store and access your photos, documents, music, and other files in the cloud. Every iCloud account has 5GB of free cloud storage, with upgrades available for purchase.
Burn CDs and DVDs
If you have a Mac with a built-in or external DVD drive, you can back up your files by burning them to CDs and/or DVDs.
Copy files to another storage drive
You can copy specific files to an external storage drive to make additional copies.
How much space will I need for a backup?
If you are copying a specific file or folder to another storage device and need to know the size of that file or folder, click it once and then press Command-I.
If you want to know how much storage you are currently using on your Mac, click the Apple menu in the top-left corner of your screen. Select “About This Mac” from the menu and click the “Storage” tab. A good rule of thumb for Time Machine backups is to use an external drive that has at least twice the storage cpacity of your Mac.
